Superintendent's Message
Its hard to believe that the first quarter is over but as I reflect on the start of the school year I have to take this opportunity to share some great things that have happened here at H-D.  First, the renovations at North Side Elementary happened ahead of schedule so the teachers could get their rooms ready for the 172 students that now attend there.  We are scheduling an open house for the community before Thanksgiving as a way to show how thankful we are for having the updated building.

There were cheers from the whole staff at the beginning of the year in-service when I was able to announce that middle school test scores showed so much progress that they received a delayed status in the No Child Left Behind designations.  This is the best a school can do after being on the School in Need of Assistance list.  In fact, the district as a whole made so much progress that we are on a delayed status on the District In Need of Assistance list, as well.

In addition, our high school was named one of the top five hundred high schools in the United States by Newsweek for our achievement in “beating the odds” in college readiness and graduation rate. We were able to announce this distinction during the week of Homecoming, which in itself was cause for celebration.  Our students should be commended for their behavior during that whole week.  Students were asked to focus on the true meaning of homecoming and show the community their appreciation for supporting the school.  And they did an amazing job!

Finally, I would like to thank the community for their support in passing the extension of the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (formerly the Local Option Sales Tax) and the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. Both of these enable the school to continue to fund current technologies, safe buses and vans, and upkeep on our facilities.  Again, “thank you.” With your continued support, the students and staff are doing wonderful things here at Hampton-Dumont.
